Coaching for Writers

The journey of writing bewilders some people.

I can help.

I do more than mark your manuscript with red ink (although I can do that quite well). As a writing coach, I am your ally - someone who unflinchingly yet compassionately offers you expert perspective depending upon your aspirations, career, and writing project. If you’re a serious first-time or veteran writer, I can help. First-time writers have shaped their rough ideas and drafts into polished proposals that they have sold to major publishers. Veteran short story writers have received guidance on refining their style and breaking open their voice. Other writers have gained aid in delving more deeply into their writing, honing their style, and shaping and finishing their manuscripts.

If you want to restore your concentration, persistence, and confidence, I can help. I often draw from my background as a teacher and practitioner of Zen and yogic meditation & philosophy, with no dogma, to design tools for writers that help them write from their center.

If you need to fill big or small gaps in your writer’s education (or lack thereof), I can help. I mentor numerous writers. As a teacher and professor of creative writing for over twenty years, I am knowledgeable and versatile especially in the genres of trade nonfiction, creative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. Together, we can make a plan to study aspects of craft as the need arises in your writing.

I guarantee my work. If for any reason you are not satisfied after a session, you will not be charged.

“After many frustrating attempts on my own as a writer, JEFFREY DAVIS STEPPED IN AND HELPED ME REORGANIZE MY PROJECT WITH KINDNESS, HUMOR, AND RIGOR. I attended my first-ever writing workshop with Jeff in Taos, New Mexico, and returned home feeling that I really could become a writer. The book proposal Jeffrey helped me write sold and I am about to publish my first book.”

- Julie Metz, author of the NYT best-seller Perfection: A Memoir of Betrayal and Renewal

(Voice/Hyperion Books, 2009) and MacDowell Fellowship Recipient

“Jeff is an INSIGHTFUL AND HONEST teacher, coach, and editor. His insights on my writing and on my writing process have helped me find the story I really want to write, and to write it. His review comments on drafts always help me take revisions to a deeper level. And it is a joy to work with him.”

- Deb Green, Novelist & Geologist
