Jeffrey Davis Director of Center To Page I live in upstate New York's Hudson Valley, but as a writing coach, editor, creativity consultant, and teacher I work with writers and organizations around the world. You can review my creds below, but you likely will work with me less because of my publication credits and more because of how I work. As a writing coach, I listen and ask the right questions. I'm versatile and know how to adjust my skills to each writer and each manuscript. I know craft and can read a manuscript as someone who knows nothing about the author. I am compassionate but also scrupulously honest. I know the challenges of writing - literary and business. My editorial focus is on fiction as well as on commercial, trade, and spiritual nonfiction. My clients include or have included NYT best-selling memoirist Julie Metz (Perfection, Hyperion/Voice, 2009), editors of the poetry anthology Mala of the Heart: 108 Sacred Poems (New World Library 2010), an art critic whose first book sold to Penguin and is due out in 2011, small publishers and their authors, as well as scholars seeking publication guidance and sabbatical applications. I also coach short story writers and novelists, business professionals and physicists with book ideas, essayists, professors of creative writing, poets - and hundreds of people wishing to develop an authentic writing life and to transform creatively. My work as Fiction Editor for Tiferet: A Journal of Spiritual Literature also complements my work as writing coach and freelance editor.
I have taught creative writing for over twenty years. I am faculty mentor in Western Connecticut State University's MFA Program in Creative & Professional Writing, and I also teach or have taught creative writing workshops at The University of New Mexico's Taos Writer's Conference, Kripalu Center, The Omega Institute, The Cape Cod Writer's Conference, The Writers Lab on the Greek isle of Skyros, Nova Scotia's Tatamagouche Centre, and the Block Island Poetry Project among other places. You can check out some of my own publications on our BOOKS page. My in-depth studies of yoga's myriad tools for the embodied mind also add to my versatility as writer, writing coach, and editor. Over ten years ago, I completed yoga teacher training in Vanda Scaravelli's Scaravelli Yoga and then in Bliss Yoga's Jivamukti-inspired program in Woodstock, NY. I also have studied with yoga iconoclasts Angela Farmer, Victor VonKooten, and Shandor Remete, and I have traveled to Chennai, South India, to study in-depth with my teacher Sri TKV Desikachar and his family of teachers. I am intimately familiar with studies in psychology, neuropsychology, and neuroscience that demonstrate yoga's tools of breath and meditation on the embodied creative mind. I live in Accord, a small farming hamlet south of Woodstock, NY, between the Catskill Mountains and the Shawangunk Mountains with my wife Hillary Thing and our daughter Dahlia. I maintain the grounds and small orchard.
One of my greatest joys is to see other people manifest their dreams and grow as writers. Call me, and let's see if we're a good fit. 1.845.679.9441 |
