Stars
And so he took us out on the lawn. It was time to learn about the stars and he started to tell about Orion's Belt and the Milky Way. And the Big Dipper and the North Star. And I kept nodding my head, agreeing to every word. Except what he didn't know was that I couldn't see. Not that far away. Dark with vague light splotches was the sky to me. Nothing sharp or definite. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if they never discovered I couldn't see. What if I had been able to go through life thinking everything a vague sort of haze? Maybe that's the real truth
of it. Life is a vague sort of haze, and sometimes we get to see
the stars.
