Eros
of the Ordinary: The Yoga of Writing Passionately
WORKSHOP with poet, nonfiction
writer and yoga teacher Jeff Davis
Eros inhabits strange places--coffee mugs and compost heaps, collarbones and coiled hips. Writers often must muster passion whether they’re writing about their lover's violin-shaped back, the joys of laziness, the idiocy of war, or the mating habits of praying mantises; they may need an embodied writing experience. By deeply engaging the body’s
memories, make-up, and myths, yoga can help writers stir up their inherent
passion for writing, regardless of the subject. In this workshop we explore
how yoga reveals the body as muse and can help us write each sentence and
line in an embodied style—sensual, musical, metaphorical, particular, and
truthful. We’ll also explore some of the Eight Limbs of Writing.
