Shaping Snakes: The
Yoga of Writing into Fear & Anger
A WORKSHOP with JEFF DAVIS
“When I write
from a yogic place in my body, I can channel fear’s fire one line at a
time, one sentence at a time, one bend at a time. I don’t want to send
fear back down more deeply into its hole; I want to coax it out with my
flute, let it spread its terrifyingly beautiful body before me, and see
what it has to teach me.” --Jeff Davis, The Journey from the
Center to the Page
Rather than repress fears
and anger, writers can coax, confront, and convert these tricky emotions
into fresh material. Yoga—by engaging the body’s memories, make-up,
and mythologies—can help us do so. Drawing from classical and contemporary
practices of yoga as well as of writing, author, writing coach, and yoga
teacher Jeff Davis creates a unique workshop experience.
In this workshop,
writers, performance artists, & aspiring writers can discover .
. .
- where fear
and anger resides
- how specific
yoga poses can bring fear to the surface
- how the
“subtle imagination” creates embodied writing
- how writing’s
rhythms reflect the body’s rhythms of fear and anger.
We will move,
write, read, share.
